Modeling, model reduction and simulation (english lecture) I/II
|
- Target Group: Students of master courses: Simulation Techniques in Mechanical Engineering
- Regular cycle: SS (2V/2Ü), WS (2V/2Ü)
- Dozent: Dr. Schulz
The contents are selected chapters from the courses »Laser Technology I (Beam
Sources)« and »Laser Technology II (Applications)«. Emphasis is laid on modelling
and simulation techniques of thermal processing with laser radiation as heat source.
Fluid mechanics of process gases, molten metals as well as the movement of a
melting front (solid-liquid) and melt film surfaces (liquid-gaseous) are dominant
processes in applications like cutting and welding. The choice of suitable values
for the processing parameters allows to identify the basic properties present in laser
processing. Observable phenomena and their meaning for modelling and model
reduction will be demonstrated. In model reduction the number of independent
variables is reduced, while the reduced model remains able to cover the relevant
properties of the full problem. Comparison with numerical solutions allows to
identify additional properties, which can be covered by introducing new variables
or by refining their interaction. Selected mathematical methods like the Separation
of Variables, Green’s Method and Variational Methods are suitable tools for getting
an overview of the pattern of behaviour.
